How far is too far? How long is too long?
Those are not questions asked by the entrants in this weekend’s National 24-Hour Championship near Wrexham, which incorporates the VTTA National Championship too.
Last year’s open category winner on age adjusted time, Christian Geldard (FTP Racing Team) returns to defend his title, while third-placed Chris Hopkinson (API Anglia Sport) also comes back for more day-long fun.
With last year’s top two females on age adjusted times choosing not to take part this time, in-form Naomi de Pennington (Drag2zero) could be one to watch having won the VTTA National 100 title recently.
De Pennington is a formidable rider, and is tipped to be fastest female overall as well as best on age-adjusted time, and could also challenge the open podium too with national ranking system Spindata suggesting she may place third overall.
Geldard’s team-mate at FTP Racing Team, Lee Williams is among the fast riders over-40, while the open race could see youngster Alex Royle (Manchester BC) prove quickest.
Elsewhere in the field keep an eye open for Fareham Wheelers’ Brian Hygate who, at 87 years old, will be looking to complete the distance one more time having done so on several other occasions!
A full report from the event by the National Executive Committee representative will be published shortly after the event, along with photographs too.
