After last year’s success with the inaugural CTT Scotland and SVTTA Track Day, I decided to organise a second event. Following a proposal from the SVTTA, the VTTA AGM authorised that 1km and 3km distances could be added to the outdoor track record book, so now there was an added incentive for riders to go for records at 1km and 3km, as well as 5km.

The event was full a week before. A couple of riders had to drop out due to illness, so on the day we had 21 solo riders and 3 tandems.

The weather was sunny and dry with a light breeze. Riders each had a 15 minute slot with the track to themselves. After entering the track they did a couple of warm up laps. From a standing start they then rode 5km, 12 laps of the 402 meter track plus 176 meters. Times were taken at 1km and 3km as well as at the 5km finish.

Thirty one National and Scotland group outdoor track records were set. They are all now showing on the VTTA website. Female solo bike record setters were Miriam Rennet, Fiona Davidson, and Diana Farrell. Open solo bike record setters were Alexander Munro, Iain McLeod, Ian Elliot, Robert Cowie, Alan Davidson, Brendan McCabe, Graham Jones, Andrew Bruce, and Douglas Watson. Tandem bike records were set by George Berwick and Phillip Jurczyk, Isobel Fletcher and Allan Maclean, Lorna and John Lumley.

The winners on AAT were Douglas Watson (open class), Miriam Rennet (female class) and Isobel Fletcher and Allan Maclean (Tandem).

Thank you to the timekeepers Carole Phillip and Alexis Urie and officials John Campbell, James Skinner and George McLaughlan and Esther Hayes for the photographs.

Feedback from the track day has been very good. Everyone who comes enjoys the event, whether they are experiencing the pain of trying for a personal best or watching others do it! I intend to put it on again next year. When you are planning your season, be sure to enter well in advance on the CTT site.
