Veterans Time Trials Association Surrey/Sussex Group
If you are over 40, ride a bike and live around Surrey, Sussex or South London then the VTTA Surrey/Sussex group may be right for you.
What we do:
As a VTTA Surrey/Sussex member, you are part of the nationwide VTTA organisation. Members receive the Annual Handbook and the Quarterly magazine “The Veteran”. Members are eligible to take part in VTTA events throughout the country, including the National Championships, and to enter the National Competitions (4 distance, 3 distance and short distance Best All Rounder). The National VTTA organisation maintains a website at www.vtta.org.uk where you can read news and information about its events, competitions and records. There is Surrey/Sussex Group area there.
VTTA Age Adjustments
The major basis of competition in VTTA events is the age adjustment, a unique handicapping system based upon the competitor's age.
A table is published in the National handbook and on the VTTA website, which sets for each distance a age adjustmebt to the actual time (or distance), for each year of age. For a distance event the rider's age adjustment is subtracted from their actual time. For a time event the adjustment is added to the actual distance.
The majority of awards in VTTA events are based upon the riders achieving the best age adjusted result, although there may also be awards for fastest actual time and Age Band awards.
The VTTA collects age, distance and time data in CTT events and uses it to update age adjustments as the performance of the average rider declines as they get older.
As a VTTA Surrey/Sussex member, you benefit from its affiliations to the following organisations:
Cycling Time Trials (CTT) https://cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/
The CTT is the National Governing Body for Cycling Time Trials. You have to be part of an affiliated group or club to enter its events, and through VTTA Surrey/Sussex Group’s affiliation, our members get that right. Members should go to the CTT site and create an account and use it for entering time trials. Members enter all VTTA events on the CTT site (not the VTTA site note!). Through the CTT you can get to ride on some the best and fastest time trial courses in the UK.
Sussex Cycling Association (SCA) https://www.sussexca.org.uk/
SCA runs time trials and other cycling events in the Sussex area. If you’re a VTTA Surrey/Sussex member, you can win awards in their events and competitions, including the Sussex Best All Rounder, Sussex SPOCO, Sussex Championships and Sussex Championship Points Competition. For more information see their website.
East Sussex Cycling Association (ESCA) https://eastsussexca.org.uk/
ESCA runs time trials and other cycling events in the East Sussex area. If you are a VTTA Surrey/Sussex member, you can win awards in their events and competitions such as Best All Rounder (BAR). For more information see their website.
