Competitive Cycling for Life
In what may be one of the last events on a fast course, several age-related records were set as the VTTA London and Homes Counties Group staged a 10-mile event on the A41 near Aston Clinton in Buckinghamshire last weekend.
Roadworks caused by impending new houses looks set to hinder the use of the F11/10 course in future, so many riders took full advantage of this event to post fast times before the traffic lights and roadworks descend.
Cheltenham and County CC rider and World Champion Linda Dewhurst clocked 22-02, which gave the 67-year-old an age-adjusted time of 16-40 to finish as fastest rider overall on the day and set a new age-related national record.
Behind her on the female podium was Deb Hutson-Lumb (Legato Racing Team) with 21-58 for an AAT of 18-06, while Samantha Howard (Team Bottrill) was third, 22-20 giving her an AAT of 19-35.
The open category saw Richard Oakes (Team Ohten) clock 18-36 for an age-adjusted time of 17-16, while Kevin Tye (VeloRefined Rule 5) was second, the 64-year-old covering the course in a new national age-related record of 19-43 to finish with an AAT of 17-23.
Third in the open category was Mike Lythgoe (Legato Racing Team) in an AAT of 17-24.
On a tandem 62-year-old Ian Greenstreet and 50-year-old Mel Sneddon teamed up to great effect with a national age-related record of 19-25.
Legato Racing Team were the top club team in a total of 54-25, with Lythgoe, Hutson-Lumb and Simon Horsley being their top three riders.
