Reigning 65-69 World Champion Linda Dewhurst leads a small but determined band of British riders heading to Australia for the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships later this month.
Dewhurst is combining the event with a trip to see some family, and is looking forward to the scenery around the Otway Forest Park and the shoreline particularly.
“The course looks rather lumpy for a time trial,” she said, “and the road race has some challenging climbs but it’s on the ocean so the views should be good.”
Entries close quite late for the event from October 16-19, but so far there seem to be six VTTA members tackling the event across the age groups and disciplines.
Alexa Forbes from London rides the time trial in the 60-64 category, while Gloucestershire-based Linda Dewhurst tackles both the time trial and road race in the 64-69 category.
After qualifying in Cyprus Redditch-based David Lynes, 46, rides the time trial while in the same 45-49 age group, Tom Scorer from Devon is also down to ride.
And in the older age categories, Jeff Roberts from Buckinghamshire will tackle the time trial in the 60-64 age band following qualification in the Villars-Suisse UCI time trial, while Roger Taylor from Surrey rides the 65-69-year-old time trial category.
There are many other British riders taking part who are not VTTA members – but we wish everyone well and the best of luck. Please send us a postcard!
