REPORT: Scottish VTTA 15-Mile Championship

Despite far from ideal weather conditions, the Scottish VTTA 15-Mile Championship looks to have produced several age-related records as riders powered round the course near Stirling.
Subject to ratification, there were four Scottish VTTA records set, including by event winner Douglas Watson who was fastest overall on age-adjusted times and went home with the prestigious Speed Family Trophy as a result being first Scottish VTTA member.
A strong headwind to the turn nearly led to the event being cancelled, but thankfully it subsided just in time and the event went ahead.
Indeed, the conditions improved so much that the course record was nearly broken by Oliver Pemberton (GTR Return to Life), a non-veteran rider who was just 30 seconds shy of setting a new mark.
53-year-old Watson was second fastest on actual time in 30-51, the Ace-YNR Performance rider having an age-adjusted time of 29-30.
That gave him the win on age-adjusted times by 1-20 from Andrew Yule (Deeside Thistle CC) with third being Derek Mcmillan (SVTTA) who was just six seconds further off the pace.
Fastest female on age-adjusted time was in-form Liz Ball (Edinburgh RC) in 31-34, 18 seconds better than runner-up Andrea Pogson (Team Catenary) with Margaret Mcmillan (Deeside Thistle CC) third in 33-19.
62-year-old Margaret Mcmillan’s time looks to be a Scottish VTTA record, as does 68-year-old Derek Mcmillan’s performance. And Andrea Pogson set a provisional new Scottish VTTA record at the age of 67.
