The entries are in, plans have been made – now it’s just a case of the riders executing their rides at the VTTA National 50-Mile Championship this Sunday.
Organised by Robin Johnson and the VTTA Surrey/Sussex Group the event takes place on the G50/10 course near West Grinstead in East Sussex on Sunday morning with the first rider off at 6.30am.
It is also being held to mark the 50th anniversary of the Sussex Cyclists’ Association.
Legato Racing Team are fielding a strong team led by Deb Hutson-Lumb who already has the 2025 VTTA National 10-Mile title on her mantlepiece. Also competing for the women’s title on age-adjusted time is Jacqui Lane (Eastbourne Rovers CC) who was third at the VTTA National 30-Mile Championship last month.
In the open category Mark Sanders (Mid-Devon CC) and 2024 runner-up Keith Dorling (Team Bottrill) will be hard to beat, but others to watch include Peter Main, the 34 Nomads CC rider who won the 2025 VTTA National 30-Mile Championship.
Liam Maybank (Twickenham CC) could also make a strong push for the title, as well as Cris Coxon (Brighton Mitre CC)and Chris Lord (Brighton Excelsior CC).
In the Group team competition it’s hard to see who will challenge the home region of Surrey/Sussex, which make up around half of the VTTA entries.
The course features 1,770-feet of climbing, with more than half of it in the second half of the event – so don’t go blazing off from the start and save something until the final hour!
