It was a dry morning in Cumbria for the VTTA 50 mile National Championship. There was a strong field of 72 riders and conditions were good for fast riding. There was a headwind on the mostly uphill section to Cockermouth and a tailwind helping the riders speed downhill to Keswick.

Ray Hall of North Group won the Open Class with an Age Adjusted Time of 01:37:37. Second was Douglas Watson, Scotland Group with ab AAT of 1:38:10 and Peter Greenwood of North Lancs and Lakes Group was third with an AAT of 1:39:34.

Liz Ball of Scotland Group won the female class with an AAT of 1:41:55. Deborah Hutson-Lumb of Merseyside Group was second with an AAT of 1:44:04 and Deborah Moss of North Lancs and Lakes Group was third with an AAT of 1:45:23.

The Scotland Group team of Douglas Watson, Liz Ball and Angus Wilson won the Group award with a total AAT of 5:02:55.

The Legato Racing Team of Mike Lythgoe, Simon Dighton and Deborah Hutson-Lumb won the VTTA Club Competition with a total AAT of 5:07:58.

Bill Maxwell of North Lancs and Lakes Group had the fastest AAT on a road bike with 2:09:34.

It was a day for breaking records. Liz Ball set a National age record for a 72 year old with a time 02:20:07. Group age records set by Marcel Schubert, Douglas Watson, Angus Wilson, Deborah Moss and Deborah Hutson-Lumb. All records are subject to ratification.

Olliver Pemberton of GTR - Return To Life p/b Streamline was fastest overall with a time of 1:39:21.
