Competitive Cycling for Life
With world and national titles to his name already, Richard Oakes (Team Ohten) will no doubt be proudly boasting of his latest achievement – a new national age record over 50 miles.
The 57-year-old clocked 1-40-39 to take second spot overall at the Bike Pace 50-Mile event last weekend, and finish first vet on actual time in the event near Abergavenny, which also incorporated the VTTA Midlands Group Championship.
Another in-form vet, Naomi de Pennington continued her preparations for next weekend’s VTTA National 100-Mile Championship where she will be defending her 2025 title. She clocked 1-50-18 to finish as fastest female.
Next up for Oakes is the Melton Olympic 25 on May 16, then the WattShop TT weekend on June 6.
Later in the season he already has lined up entries at the VTTA Northern Closed Circuit Championships as well as the VTTA National 25 Championship being staged by VTTA East Anglian Group and the VTTA London and Home Counties 10 in July.
