Competitive Cycling for Life ^
An Age Adjusted Time (AAT) is a veteran rider’s actual time in an event minus the adjustment for their age. The adjustment increases each year on their birthday.
The purpose of Age Adjusted Times is to allow all riders aged over 40 to compete fairly against each other. It helps motivate veterans to keep competing as they grow older. All VTTA events and championships are based on the Age Adjusted result, and any event can use the VTTA’s age adjustment tables.
There are separate age adjustments for Open and Female riders at each time trial distance. Age adjustments can range from a few seconds for an Open rider in their early 40s at 10 miles, to over an hour for 65+ Female riders at 100 miles. The longer the event the greater the adjustment for your age. The tables are based on an analysis of over 100,000 rides in CTT time trials in the last decade. They are regularly reviewed to take account of the latest performances and the impact of up-to-date equipment and training methods.
You can view the adjustments for your own age using the tables on this page. Age adjustments are also referred to in several places in the regulations. The easiest way to find those references is to use Ctrl+F to find them on that page.
