REPORT: National 15-Mile titles handed out in Yorkshire

Russ Richardson and Deb Hutson-Lumb were crowned open and female winners respectively after impressive performances at the VTTA National 15-Mile Championship.
Hosted by VTTA Yorkshire Group, the event took place near Boroughbridge on the V226 course, one of the well-known ‘Red Wall’ courses, named after a local landmark which stretches for a couple of miles as the A168 tracks the A1M down to Wetherby.
Whilst it is well sheltered from westerly winds most riders had to contend with some cold rain which became heavier for the later starters.
69-year-old Richardson (Zurbaran Racing and North Group)clocked 34-27 for the course, giving him an age-adjusted time (AAT) of 29-32, enough to take the win in the open category from Douglas Watson (Ace YNR Performance and Scotland) by 24 seconds with Ray Hall (Zurbaran Racing and North Group) third.
In the female category 61-year-old Hutson-Lumb (Legato RT and Merseyside) had an AAT of 29-35 and was second fastest overall, with an actual time of 35-27.
That gave her the win in the female competition by 37 seconds from 73-year-old Liz Ball (Edinburgh RC and Scotland), while City RC Hull rider Vanessa Barker was third with 30-27 on AAT.
Alongside Richardson and Hall, Keith Murray made up the North Group who won that category with an agregate 1:31.50, while the club team winners were Legato Racing Team with Hutson-Lumb, Mike Lythgoe and Steven Loraine in 1:30.41.
With a combined age of 172 Mary Corbett and Norman Harvey (Sotonia CC and Wessex Group) were fastest tandem trike, clocking an actual time of 49-58 for an age-adjusted performance of 33.12.
Second in the open category on age-adjusted time, Douglas Watson was the day’s actual fastest rider in 31-17.
