Echelon/VTTA WeekendThe 10 and 25 events have proved very popular over the last few years and were cancelled at very short notice on Saturady 24th. The organiser Steve Wood, was forced to take the decision when he inspected the course first thing on Saturday morning and found that Warwickshire Police had erected traffic control measures due to the Game Fair at Ragley Hall. An alternative route based on an established road race circuit nearby was considered but this was also subject to very heavy traffic and temporary traffic lights. Every effort has been made to contact riders especially those entered for the Sunday '25' and it only remains to apologise for the cancellation.Thank you to everyone who entered and helped the organisation. There is the possibility that we may be able to take up another weekend laster in the season - so watch this space! |

VTTA National Championship 10This promotion for the North Group by the Hartlepool CC was a fine example for anyone of how to run an important race. John Grant and his team put on a superb event which despite a cold and strong N.W. wind was a complete success. There was apparently one glitch in the proceedings when cones suddenly appeared on the course overnight. This was overcome with the help of the Tees-side C.T.T. district secretary and no one noticed that there had been a problem. The cones disappeared as if by magic.
The death of an obviously well respected President of the promoting club led to generous sponsorship of the event by his family, leading to a truly outstanding prize list. The prizes were presented by his widow Madge Pailor. The weather did not help to make conditions fast but there were still some outstanding rides done and all the winners of the different categories were worthy of the accolades they received at the presentation. The biggest problem for Ron Hallam seemed to be to get his medals for the individual and team wins to fit round his neck showing the front of the medals for the photographer. The result is on the results page which gives details of all the rides done and all the prize winners. The weather as seems usual on these occasions was excellent on the days before and after the event. I wonder if this is an omen for the CTT National 10 to be run by the same club next year. A Letter from George Nowland the ChairmanWhen I took over the role of VTTA Chairman, my head was full of ideas on how I felt the organisation should be going in order to not only maintain its position in the sport of time trialling but to improve its status.I gave myself three to five years to see if I could make a positive improvement in the VTTA. During that time there have been successes and disappointments, but I have always tried my best to help bring the VTTA into the 21st century. I thought the Forum was a great success. It started things rolling and has resulted in many improvements over the last few years. However, I was very disappointed with the response to the last attempt to hold another Forum, where I was going to take the opportunity to put some ideas to the Groups on some major changes that I thought we needed to be brave enough to address, but it was not to be. I feel privileged to have been given the chance as Chairman to bring my ideas to the VTTA and also to have been involved with the many members who put so much time and effort into the Association. I now feel that the time is right for a new face to take the helm, and I will not be standing for re-election at the National AGM in February 2011. I would like to thank everybody at all levels of the VTTA for the help and friendship given to me during my time as Chairman. I have had to make some difficult decisions but I have always kept to the rules. A special thanks to my colleagues on the NEC and to Ann Butterworth who has felt like part of my family while she has been Secretary. I wish you all the best for the future. Regards George |

SVTTA 30 mile Time Trial Championship / PINKY WILLIAMS TROPHY 4th July 2010 on AB30/1The entry was disappointing and the weather was worse.74 year old Derek 'Dick' Stewart took the 2010 30 mile TT Championship and the Pinky William’s Trophy, Steve Nutley, silver and comeback boy, 1961 Scottish 25 mile TT record holder Peter Robertson of Forres CC, bronze. Derek’s time [1.15.00] creates a new age record at 74 years wiping out Willie Cuthbert's records at 71 [1997] and 74 [2000]. It also wipes out J M Reid's at 72 [2000] and most significantly Pinky's own record at 70 years which stood from 1988 [1.16.17] Steve Nutley's 1.06.16 creates a new age record at 54 years, wiping out Dave Millar’s record at 51 years [1997] and Dave McCallum’s at 50 years which has stood since 1988. Along with the traditional 'brown envelop' Derek was presented with a “bottle of bubbly” courtesy of the organising Club, Aberdeen Wheelers. No Formula 1 shenanigans here ~~ The bottle was spirited off home. Carlos Riise [Shetland Wheelers] produced the fastest time, a remarkable 1.06.16 in the almost gale force conditions, pushed all the way by Fife 2000's Steve Nutley. Local rider, Phil Kelman [Deeside Thistle] continued to impress with a battling 1.07.21 to take third place in the open competition. Christine McLean [Shetland Wheelers] declared that she was 'up for it' punctured in the first two miles and retired. If the truth be told, everyone who finished deserved a medal and the marshals who braved the gale should be given special mention. Graham Gerrard, start timekeeper, was forced to abandon the comfort of the car to make his countdowns heard above the wind. Organiser Bob Gibson was most appreciative of two of the DNS's [health & travel delays] who donned marshals' jackets and braved the elements to help ensure everybody got round safely.
